Rib reduction surgery, also known as rib remodeling or waist narrowing surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that aims to reduce the circumference of the waist by gently repositioning the lower ribs.
Minimally invasive rib remodeling, like the RibXcar technique, is a procedure offered exclusively by Dr. Carlos Murillo in Houston, TX, that reshapes the lower ribs to create a slimmer waist without removal or scarring. This scarless technique involves using ultrasound-guided Piezotome vibrations to create a minor controlled fracture in the ribs, allowing them to be bent into a new position. During the entire procedure, the operated area is monitored by ultrasound. The surgeon can therefore see exactly what he is doing, increasing the reliability and safety of the surgical procedure. Selected ribs are also called “floating ribs” as they do not connect to the sternum and are generally safe to manipulate. Patients then wear a supportive garment for 8-12 weeks to help maintain the new shape as the ribs heal and consolidate. How the Technique Works
- Ultrasound Evaluation: An ultrasound is used to assess the area and identify the ribs for remodeling.
- Puncture and Piezotome Insertion: A tiny, scarless opening is made to insert a Piezotome device.
- Ultrasonic Reshaping: The Piezotome’s vibrations weaken and sculpt the ribs by creating a controlled, single-cortex fracture.
- Stabilization: A custom-designed garment is applied to hold the ribs in their new, more contoured position, facilitating the remodeling process as the rib cage consolidates.
